Remember the dating years?
Some people just seemed to have more tact than others.
There would be those who would romantically court their ladies while others would come forward with everything all at once. It was typically this 2nd group that remained single.
People want to feel special and important rather than having a sense that someone just barfed in their lap. I know, gross, right?
Are you aware that we can treat our businesses in the same way?
Take guest blogging for example.
While there is great value in being a guest blogger, dropping a 1500-word article in a busy Webmaster’s lap can often lead to bad things happening.
Things like you wasting your time.
Them rejecting your article.
And everyone being much worse off for the experience.
Why Do Guest Blogging as An Affiliate Marketer?
So, with all the negativism I just unfolded, wouldn’t it be better to simply forget about guest blogging altogether?
There are several reasons why Bloggers should strive to become Guest Bloggers including.
Especially, if they have been around for a while then they have a traffic funnel built up. You’re just getting started which means, you don’t. Therefore, if you provide them with an article of interest then they can provide you with more traffic that you would have otherwise missed.
If your engaged in the search engine ranking game, then you need high quality backlinks to your affiliate site. These should be related to your niche. Thus, having a guest blog on another site that is in the same niche as yours does become incredibly valuable.
The more you can get the message of your brand out to the world the greater chance you will have in succeeding online. This can be done in several ways including blogging from your own site, social media integration and guest blogging just to name a few ideas.
These are 3 top reasons why you should consider guest blogging. Can you think of others that I have missed? Please share them in the comments below.
My Secret Recipe for Guest Blogging Success
If you want to break into a new location to do guest blogging from I have one simple word for you.
Do not collect $200. Do not pass go.
Surely that is not going to be a recipe for success, you say. What gives?
Neither is upchucking on the lap of your new-found love. I respond.
Instead, start with commenting. There are so many huge advantages to this approach.
Advantages of Engaging in Comments First
First, a word about what I mean when I saw commenting.
You read someone else’s article and provide a highly targeted engaged comment that has great value. There are tricks to doing this with your affiliate marketing business which I will cover in a moment.
Before I do that, let’s look at 3 good reasons to start with commenting your way into your new guest blogging opportunities.
Quick Look Under the Hood
At this point, you don’t even know how friendly the Webmaster will be, or if they will even respond by approving your comment. A comment can be much shorter than a well-done guest blog and takes only a small fraction of the time to complete. If the Webmaster doesn’t engage with your comment by at least approving it what do you think they will do with your guest blog submitted?
With this approach, you can view their style while they can see what you are about. If your styles don’t match, wouldn’t you rather know about it sooner than later? A good comment can be written in about 5 minutes after reading the article on which you are commenting. Probably less. But if the style of writing is not consistent with your style of writing then you know you have found a property to avoid.
You still can get traffic via a comment backlink. You may not have built the same level of authority in just 2 paragraphs as compared to 1500 words but the story remains the same. Once the comment is approved it includes a backlink to your site. No reason to try to build in a 2nd link or anything. Remember, you are courting this new connection and anything looking like spam will be quickly rejected.
These are 3 of many reasons that I would recommend starting with a comment approach. Do you see other benefits not identified above? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. We are listening and interested in your views.
Secret Sauce to Engaged Comments
Before I continue with how this all relates to guest blogging for your affiliate marketing business, let me give you a quick tip.
Within your comment be sure to ask at least one focused question.
Typical comments find people making a statement about something in the article and then moving on to other topics. The moderator that approves your comment sees it, likes it and even accepts it. But there is no need for them to respond.
When you leave a targeted comment with a question what is obviously required from them?
Let’s say they approve the comment but don’t answer the question.
What is that likely going to communicate to their audience?
Most bloggers don’t want to send a disconnected message so they will respond. Based on their response you can respond and thus a conversation ensues on their blog post. Everyone wins in this case.
You build brand recognition.
They get engaged interaction.
Google see’s all this and rewards accordingly with higher rankings.
Isn’t it cool that everything is completed so nice and neatly?
It isn’t. It has just begun.
From Blog Comments to Guest Blogging
At this point you have at least engaged with the moderator once. Even better if it is 2 or 3 times. Whatever the case, they are looking for you and the high-quality value that you bring to their blog.
Continue doing this process, but this is where you can turn up the heat also.
Now that they know you, respond to you and hopefully like you it is time to send them an eMail requesting the ability to be a guest blogger for them.
Within the eMail you can mention the comment exchanges that have been taking place as well as asking them if thee is anything that they would like you to write about.
Even now we don’t just send them a blog post expecting them to comply with your requirements. That is the way to lose in this relationship and love.
Imagine that first kiss.
Everything went so perfectly and the both of you are incredibly pleased with where things are going.
So, a text is received the next day with a laundry list of “to do’s” for the other to accomplish. I’m sure that would squelch something somewhere in your new-found romance. Such would be the same as you seek to establish a relationship for your guest blogging opportunities.
Yes, they have the qualifications for what to do if you want to be a guest blogger on their platform. It includes many things but not asking for permission before submission. Isn’t this just an extra step?
In fact, it can answer how to avoid affiliate marketing scams through waist of time by sending eMails that never receive response. If they are not willing to engage your eMail then why spend time writing a 1500 word article for them?
Something is wasted in that equation, and that something is your time.
Moving Forward with Guest Blogging in Style
At this point you have built a relationship on comments and received an approval for being a guest blogger. It’s now time to start writing, right?
First you want to take time to go over their requirements for guest bloggers. Make sure you have everything set exactly the way that they require. They didn’t write those details because they had nothing else to put on that page.
Each time you send a new guest blog repeat that process. Make sure that you are fulfilling all their requirements. You’ve taken time to build the relationship don’t lose it now.
They have come to see you as a person of value.
If you can’t take time to follow the details they require then what does that say about the content, you are sending to them?
Closing Thoughts About Guest Blogging
With this process in motion you spend far less time building new guest blogging relationships. You are also likely to be approved much faster because they know who you are before you tell them the full story of what you want.
You have taken time to build the relationship.
Using this style, who do you think they will turn to when they have a special request? They know they can trust you and the value you bring to the table.
By the way, I use an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of everything that defines what we understand as how affiliate marketing is business building and recommend creating something that will help you to stay on track too.
With that said, I only have one question left, what did I miss above? How would you improve upon the ideas presented? Please share your thoughts in the comments below because I truly do enjoy hearing from you.
